I have a confession: I love the Brady Bunch. Besides being a fantastic show, the clothes are unabashedly cheerful and colorful, with Ms. Brady sporting pastel bell bottoms and even Mr. Brady going for crazy-colored Pucci-esque ties. Marcia, besides being obnoxious sometimes, has my personal favorite wardrobe on the show, filled with sweet, ultra-girly dresses, pretty blouses, and several pairs of the omnipresent bell-bottoms (once again, even Mr. Brady gets in on the bell-bottom trend).
Family portrait! Don't get too attached to that horse it gets broken in a later episode...
Even Cher Horowitz and pals got in on the school-girl seventies-esque Marcia look later on, although they of course updated it to be ultra-nineties.
Hanii Y resort 2011 look, a short, sweet dress that would have Marcia Brady drooling.
A Rebecca Taylor updated version of the Marcia girl: feminine dress, but updated with an edgy jacket and cool clogs. Maybe lose the socks though- Tavi's the only one who can really pull of the socks-with-everything look.
Sonia Rykiel digs the clog trend as well, although this dress looks more like the Brady's interior decorating than a piece from their various wardrobes.
Miu Miu brings an edgy Harajuku Girls-esque vibe to the classic bell bottom.
Marc Jacobs goes for a seventies silhouette, updated with neutral colors and strappy shoes.
Rebecca Taylor updates the bell bottom look in dark denim and with a pretty blouse and bright heels.
Marcia going to a flea market? Love the clogs again but not so keen on the socks- still looks pretty cool though. The edgy shoes-meets-ultra-sweet-dress look never goes out of style.
Emilio Pucci prefers an edgier seventies look, more Jagger than Brady, but still with the same basic pieces.
Ultra-edgy look, yet another Pucci, and a rocker-chic way of pulling off the seventies look.
Another modern update of the classic Marcia dress: an ultra-femme dress done super-short and with killer shoes.
Sweeter, more Marcia at Marc, with a pretty polka-dot ultramini and a classic granny cardigan.
Mrs. Brady's nightgown? No way to mistake this trend- this look is all seventies, from the super sweet, short length to the bright, poppy print, a la Marc Jacobs.
So how does a modern girl rock the seventies trend without looking too granny-ish or too preppy? The key is to take super sweet pieces, like a mini dress or a granny cardigan, and toughen them up with awesome shoes or edgy cargo pants (I know I've said edgy like 428938912891289123898912 billion times).
One way to update the look is to take a classically seventies blouse, obnoxiously bright and peppy, and a pair of groovy platforms, and pair them with cool and ultratrendy cargo pants and a classic denim jacket. Hoops and a messenger bag complete the look.
A truly brave girl can go all-out seventies. A floral top, bell bottoms, and hippie rings scream seventies, and yet the look is updated by the classic-with-a-twist sequin striped top and funky oxfords. A leather messenger bag completes the peace-loving look.

Not into the whole seventies vibe? You can still steal a page from the hippie era with an ultra girl and flowy dress, a la Marcia Brady, but up the cool factor with trendy thigh-high boots and socks, a bitchin' leather jacket, layered necklaces, and a day-glo messenger bag.
